For the woman who loves style, functionality and comfort, garter belts for women come in as a great relief. These clothing accessories incorporate fashion and elegance that gives every woman a sexy look regardless of their naked body shape. If you asked the modern woman to spot a petticoat or a corset, they would laugh at you all the way. However, the garter, though old, still holds popular today because of their style.
For the sake of the woman who does not understand what we are talking about here, garter belts are circular pieces of material that a woman wears around the waist. It has some hanging strips, called garters, which have clasps at the end. These garters may be adjustable or not, but they all hang about 3 or 4 inches down from the belt. There are two strips positioned over the thighs at the front, and two at the back. The purpose of these strips is to hold on to the top of the nylon stockings to keep them held up.
Garter belts for women – A Short History
These sexy garter belts were designed in the 1920s. They came to be as a result of the restricting corsets which were also very uncomfortable. The belt design gave more freedom to the woman who wanted a more free fitting clothing that did not have to cover the entire torso restrictively. They were also more fashionable and lighter than the girdle although they are not as shaping.
By the 1940s to early 1960s these garter belts had become the in thing…a fashion to behold. Some women would put them on with a mini skirt, while others with a longer but slitted skirt to ensure that it was clearly visible as they walked. Today, they are still very fashionable especially as sexy lingerie. They still come attached to corsets (with many being removable). Some come with sexy outfits, but some women are bold to make fashion statements by wearing them out of the bedroom hence making that fashion statement.

There are many varieties of these garter belts for women to choose from. They come in all designs, materials, and shapes, with most having matching stockings and underpants.
